What I Need to Do

HOSTING

The first thing you will need is to sign up with a hosting company - this is a place that will host your web site for you over the internet.  .The place where your web site sits.

WEB ADDRESS

Once you have your hosting account, you will need to register a domain name, which will become your web address.  Choose a name that suits your web content and that means something to yourself or your club etc.  You will need to check if the name is available, then you can go ahead and register your domain.

WEB SOFTWARE

Now you have hosting space and have registered your web address, you now need to build your site.  I have found some great software for you to do this.  I have outlined on my "Where to get it" page a great piece of software (XCitePro), that makes building your site a piece of cake and also very rewarding.

If you already have your own software, I have also utlined some links to some great sites that sell templates. This way you only need to download a template and just alter it to suite.

FTP

FTP Stands for File Transfer Protocol and is a means of uploading your web site, once built, onto the web or to place in on your hosted area. If you chose my recommendation for your web software i.e. XCitePro you won't need FTP, as this software will also publish your site.

SEARCH ENGINES

Now you need to get your site found, I have outlined on the "Where to get it" page ways to do this.  As search engines have thousands of sites listed, it is always a good idea to advertise by other means as well.  For example you can have your site address displayed on your vehicle, or printed on your business cards.  You can even advertise in local newspapers etc with your web address.

You can also send out emails to all your contacts with your new web address and in turn ask them nicely to send out emails to all their contacts, letting them know of your web site.  You can also link your site with other sites of a similar nature - you can place a link to their site in exchange for them adding your link to their site.  There are lots of way to get your site out there, just use your imagination.
